The article that I read for my current event was all about nudibranchs. To start off with, nudibranchs are a type of sea slug that lives in the water. Unlike mollusks, clams, oysters and snails, nudibranchs do not have a shell to protect themselves with. All they have is muscle, skin and organs. They range in size from about the size of your finger, to the size of your keyboard on your computer. Most animals that live underwater have gills on the inside. Nudibranchs however have gills on the outside, which look like very colorful feathers. Nudibranchs have many unique and colorful patterns. They get there amazing colors from the foods that they eat. An example is, " when one eats a sponge, it gets the sponge's color pigments." (National Geographic). The colors are not just for fun, they are to help defend themselves against predators. For example, a sea turtle might have a hard time seeing a yellow nudibranch eating a yellow sponge. Did you know that nudibranchs can only see in black, white and gray? Well its true.
In my opinion, nudibranchs are very interesting creatures that aren't commonly heard of.
They have many amazing facts about them that I find awesome. For example, a fact that i think is really cool is that nudibranchs can use their food as weapons. Also, they can only see in black and white and shades of gray, but nudibranchs themselves are a variety of colors and patterns! I would like to research more about the nudibranchs because I feel that they really are a cool animal.
